We enjoyed hearing about Matthias' experiences at our Workshop, where he kindly agreed to present - click to see his presentation.
Matthias qualified with CIMA whilst working at British Airways for six years after graduating in Economics and Spanish. Coming from a large commercial organisation he thought it was time for a change and saw a placement with AfID as exactly the right thing.

Matthias took up a placement as the first volunteer working with Asociación de Mujeres del Altiplano (AMA) in Guatemala, and he supported AMA from August until November 2014, spending 3 months on placement.
“This allowed me to live in an area of the world I am very interested in, work in a language I love and explore work in the exciting and challenging development sector”. Based on his “incredible” experience in Guatemala, Matthias has decided to continue working for charities and is now part of the West and Central Africa team at the British Red Cross, supporting their projects in the regions as an International Programmes Accountant. He is now looking into going on his second AfID assignment!
