Omina Foundation, San Jose, Costa Rica

Omina comes from the Latin ōmen, meaning the signs of something to come. OMINA is a non-profit start-up created in 2017, based in Costa Rica, known as one of the most sustainable countries in the world. Their mission is to align Latin America with the Global Agenda on sustainable goals and provide the region with the reference points to understand, adapt and implement this Agenda.

Their programmes are aimed at education and raising awareness on sustainability and circular economy, and are mainly divided between events and field projects. The events organised comprise of Seminars on topics like sustainable cities and urban ecology, sustainable fashion and entrepreneurship in 21st Century. The projects focus on social and environmental innovation, with some examples being agricultural diversification in indigenous communities, cleaning the oceans campaign and activities with inmates at the women’s prison.
