Past volunteer, Karim is an ACA accountant who, prior to his AfID assignment, had spent the last five years working in audit at BDO LLP. Karim undertook a split assignment with AfID supporting two organisations, spending five weeks at each. The first, Dream Achievers Youth Organisation (DAYO) based in Mombasa in Kenya, and then at Kyaninga Child Development Centre (KCDC) in Fort Portal, Uganda.

Karim, what were your favourite aspects of volunteering through AfID?
The rewarding work - the sense of satisfaction where you feel that your work is of benefit to those that truly need it – being able to travel around and meet fascinating and truly inspiring people, and the challenge of working in a completely different environment.
