Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA ) is a registered charity in Malawi, dedicated to animal welfare and creating a culture of animal care and compassion. They are the first and only animal welfare organisation in the country.
The LSPCA work with animal owners, farmers and stray populations in peri urban and rural locations. Their mission is to create greater awareness within Malawi for animal welfare issues for both domestic and farm animals. They are partnered with the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the government’s Department for Animal Health and Livestock Development. The LSPCA support the enforcement of legislation by local authorities and work to help improve current legislation and assist with policy development.
They currently run a variety of programmes including:
- Free veterinary clinics in and out of Lilongwe
- Annual rabies vaccinations campaigns
- Community farm and spay clinics
- Rehoming Shelter
- Donkey Sanctuary project
